The Chuncheon International Mime Festival (CIMF) is an annual event held in late May in Chuncheon, known as the city of spring and water, which connects the city, art, and citizens through water, fire, body, and movement in a performance art festival.
Regarded as one of the top three mime festivals in the world alongside the Mimos Festival in France and the London Mime Festival in the UK, it is gaining international recognition.
By combining various genres such as water, fire, flowers, light, and visuals with the silent movements, it creates a new genre called 'Chuncheon + Mime + Festival,' reflecting the emotions and sentiments of the city and its citizens.
Based on the primal energies of water and fire, the festival unleashes the desires of the city and the era through artistic gestures, creating a festival of 'Nanjang' where these elements converge.
2024 Festival Theme "WARM BODY"
If fitness or aerobics pursue a 'healthy body' through exercise, what kind of body does mime, expressing facts, emotions, and sensations solely through movement and form, aspire to?Perhaps it's a 'liberated body'. For a mime artist, the body serves as an instrument, a voice, an object. Thus, its freedom in interpretation, variation, utilization, and creation becomes the artist's 'craft'.
However, for a festival that values dialogue, communication, and connection with the audience and community, the 'mime body' may take on a different significance. Moreover, for a festival tasked with echoing the pains of contemporary society, such as loneliness, alienation, and more, the 'mime body' could carry further layers of meaning.
In this era, I envision the 'mime body' to exude warmth. I hope it serves as a comforting presence. The innate warmth of 36.5 degrees a trait shared by all humans.
Rather than an idealized 'perfect body' like a slender frame, muscular physique, or flawless proportions, I wish for Chuncheon International Mime Festival in May 2024 to offer a soothing embrace akin to 36.5 degrees of warmth.
